MEDIATED VIEW

Transportation infrastructure, such as elevated expressways, pose physical, tangible barriers as well as intangible barriers isolating city neighbourhoods. This results in dead space and economic and social ramifications for the areas on “the wrong side of the tracks”. The large structure is imposing and looms over its surroundings.

Our proposal aims to remove the visual, and therefore psychological, barrier at key locations to reconnect the city fabric and activate the surrounding space. By coupling LED panel technology and live video, spans of elevated expressways can be cloaked or made “invisible” to reconnect both sides of the highway to pedestrians, re-animating our streets.
